The Vision Behind "The Color Of Dance"

On the date of September 26th, 2023, an eagerly awaited masterpiece graced the world’s bookshelves- “The Color Of Dance.” This book was sprung from the creativity and dedication of none other than Takiyah Wallace-McMillian, the innovator behind the Brown Girls Do Ballet movement, who wears the crowns of both Founder and Executive Director. Her mission and ambition woven into the vision of the book is to reshape our perception of dance particularly for individuals of color.

The Color Of Dance serves as a model of empowerment and a living manifestation to people from all walks of life to be able to discover their own reflection within its pages. It continues to reshape conventional boundaries of dance by capturing the essence of what our world looks like today through the reflections of hair, skin hues, body diversity, and age. The Color Of Dance is a representation of diversity and inclusion, serving as an inspiration destined to radiate through time touching the hearts and minds of generations to come.

The Color Of Dance illuminates the beauty and promise that Black and Brown girls bring to the field of Ballet. With rich, joyful, and poetic imagery Takiyah Wallace-McMillian captures the timeless nature of the phrase ‘dare to dream.’
