Dear Supporters,
Brown Girls Do Ballet® has been a beacon of diversity and inclusion in the world of ballet, empowering young girls and breaking barriers. But now, we face our toughest challenge yet. Staying operational. As the movement to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programming grows, coupled with the loss of significant funding, we have been forced to let go of our interns, cut our Executive Directors pay, and are at risk of discontinuing our core programming which is essential to helping brown ballerinas and small studios thrive. In the face of these challenges, we are turning to you, our community, for help.
Who We Are
Brown Girls Do Ballet® is a division of Brown Girls Do™, Inc., a registered 501(c)3 committed to promoting diversity in the arts. We provide annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs to empower young girls interested in dance. Thanks to your interest, donations, and commitment, we have been recognized by The Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and the Washington Post, among others.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower young girls by promoting diversity in ballet. Historically, we have been funded internally and through participation in DEI-centric programs that support and resource causes like ours. A small amount of our operating income comes from artwork, merchandise sales, and event donations. Now, we need your help to keep our programs running.
Why We Need Your Help
Loss of Funding: We've lost significant funding, impacting our ability to continue programming.
Elimination of DEI Programming: There's a push to eliminate DEI programs, threatening our mission. This has affected our corporate sponsorships and grants.
Reduction in Force: We had to let go of our interns and other vital contractors, reducing our capacity to serve.
What Your Donation Supports
Scholarships: Providing opportunities for young ballerinas.
Operating Costs: Website maintenance, printing, and shipping.
Program Support: Ambassador/Mentorship Program (currently serving 75 girls for 2024), Supply Closet, and Pointe Shoe Program.

Our fundraising goal is $15,000 by the 15th of May. With 148,000 Instagram followers, if only 0.1% of our followers gave $5, we'd exceed our goal in one day. Your tax-deductible donation will ensure that we continue to highlight and celebrate diversity in ballet and provide access and opportunity to underserved ballerinas.
